Further information for delegates

Is the training live?

Yes, all of our training sessions are live. The trainer will start at the specified time and you will hear them speaking live. If you have any questions you can ask them and the trainer can respond.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in activities and discussions with other delegates during the session.

Do trainers use webcams?

No, the trainer will normally only use a microphone to communicate with you. This is to reduce the need for fast Internet connections whilst still giving an interactive experience.

Do I have access to a microphone and will I have to speak?

No, only the trainer has access to a microphone. This makes attending the session and participating a lot easier for delegates and reduces the need to set up microphones before the session. If you have any questions or comments during the session you can type them into the chat windows that are on every screen.

Will I need to download and print out materials before the event?

If you need to download materials before the event you will be told in the joining instructions that are emailed to you. All the materials that you need to use will normally be shown onscreen but if you are training as a department or group with a single log in it may be worth printing a copy of the materials for each delegate.

What do I need to bring?

It is generally a good idea to have specifications, mark-schemes, exam papers etc. to hand if you have them, but anything you need to use will also be provided onscreen.

I am attending an event but have not received any joining instructions; what should I do?

Please contact us on 01273 704461 with the details of the course you have booked.

How can I make sure I do not have technical difficulties on the day of the event?

The Internet can be unpredictable but there are things you can do to ensure everything will run smoothly:

Please run the tests referred to in your joining instructions. If any of the tests fail please call us on 01273 704461.

Please visit the link for the event and try to log in. If you are unable to log in please call us on 01273 704461.

Turn your computer on well before the event is due to start. Computers often install updates or run virus checkers when they start up so can be a little slow. Turning your computer on well before the training is due to start can ensure this is not a problem.

Make sure you have no other programs running, especially if they are using the Internet. Don’t forget about programs that run in the background, like cloud storage systems or email. Please do not turn off your virus checker or other security software.

Check that your computer has sound set up by visiting a website with sound such as youtube or the BBC.

If you are training from home make sure no one else is using the Internet intensively.

I have been logged out of the session, what should I do?

If you have been logged out of the session it is likely that your Internet connection has failed. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and re-join the session using the link from your joining instructions.

During the session my sound keeps breaking up, what should I do?

Log out of the session, check you do not have any other programs using the Internet and log back in again. This will often solve the problem. If it does not, let your host know by typing into the chat window.
